EQUESTRIAN - Shetland Ponies

CONDITIONS OF SALE

1. ENTRY FEES: An entry fee of £15.00 per pony must accompany each entry form. Any pony entered in the sale and subsequently not forward will forfeit the full entry fee, likewise any pony presented for sale but not sold will forfeit the full entry fee but no other charges will be made on the latter. Should a pony (or ponies) not be presented for sale the Auctioneers reserve the right to refuse entries from such vendor(s) at future Reading sales (unless a satisfactory explanation as to the reason for withdrawal has been submitted). Cheques for entry fees should be made payable to Thimbleby & Shorland.
2. AUCTIONEERS' & SOCIETY CHARGES: The Auctioneers will charge 5% of the total sale price as commission on each lot, selling being in guineas, with a minimum of £5 commission per lot. An additional 1% will be levied by the Society (deducted by the Auctioneers from vendors' sale accounts for convenience). Full commission will be charged on any lots sold privately after the sale.
3. REGISTRATION: All lots must be registered with the SPSBS or failing this the Vendor must undertake to lodge a Stud Book entry form with the appropriate fee with the Society before 15th July 2002.
4. TRANSFER FEES: SPSBS Members - the Auctioneers will deduct £8.00 (VAT inclusive) for male foals and yearling males, and £10.00 for all other ponies from Vendors' accounts for each pony sold. Non-Members - the fee will be £16.00 and £20.00 respectfully (VAT inclusive). This money will be sent to the SPSBS who will make the necessary transfers.
5. STALLIONS: The registration number or Inspection Status must be advised on the entry form for all male entries born during or before 1999.
6. HALTERS: All entries must be halter broken and capable of being led. Vendors DO NOT have to leave a halter with any pony sold as these will be provided by the Auctioneers to the purchasers.
7. ACCOMMODATION: There will be covered accommodation for each lot entered. Hay and straw will be available for purchase if prior notice is given to the auctioneers.
8. RANDOM BLOOD /DNA TYPING: It is the policy of the Shetland Pony Society to random blood/DNA type ponies and the Auctioneers have granted permission for this to be carried out at the sale premises. Ponies at this sale may be blood/DNA typed.
9. UNPAID LOTS: Any animal not paid for within one hour of the end of the sale will be returned to the Vendor. Vendors are reminded that they must check at the Auctioneers Market Office before leaving the sale yard.
10. PONIES SOLD FOR EXPORT: The Vendors of any animals sold for export must be prepared to take such animals back until such time as all the formalities for export have been arranged. However, for vendors travelling long distances every endeavour will be used to make alternative arrangements. The Society would like all vendors of ponies sold to foreign purchasers to accompany the pony whilst the International Pony Movement Certificate is completed by the vet.
11. ALL LOTS are sent and remain on the premises at the risk of the Vendor until such time as they are sold when they become the risk of the purchaser. Animals may be insured for the journey and for long or short periods through the Auctioneers.
12. VENDORS AND PURCHASERS are advised to make themselves familiar with the Conditions of Sale applicable to Reading Horse Sales, a copy of which will be posted on the premises on day of sale. Where there is a variance between these Conditions of Sale and Reading Horse Sale Conditions, then these Conditions shall apply.
13. MALE ENTRIES: Unlicensed male stock will only be accepted if a similar number of female entries are forward from any Vendor, with a maximum of two unlicensed males accepted from any one Vendor. However, there is no restriction on licensed stallions, colts awaiting assessment or geldings broken to ride and/or drive.
14. ENTRIES will be restricted to 12 ponies per consignor UNLESS it is a genuine Stud dispersal or major reduction. Total entries will be limited to 350 at the Auctioneers' discretion.
15. FOALS: All foals to be born before 12th June 2002, even if being sold at foot with their mother.
16. In the interests of welfare, two year old fillies who have been running with a stallion WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR SALE.

CONDITIONS/GUIDELINES FOR SALES HELD UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE SHETLAND PONY STUD BOOK SOCIETY

1. Premises must conform to all current animal welfare regulations.
2. The entry form must include a declaration stating that the pony/ies being entered in the Sale have been correctly transferred through the Society and are registered in the name of the vendor.
3. The entry form must state that all stock must be registered with the Shetland pony Stud-Book Society by 15th July at the latest. This date will be strictly adhered to.
4. The minimum age of foals to be 18 weeks on day of sale even being sold at foot. The foal's exact date of birth must be stated on the entry form.
5. It must be emphasised that foals, unless being sold at foot, must be weaned.
6. Any ponies over the age of eighteen years must have a Vet's certificate, dated the day before the Sale, stating that the pony is fit to travel. The pony must only be vetted the day immediately prior to the Sale. If no such certificate is received by the Auctioneer, the pony must not be permitted to go forward for sale. No ponies over 20 years of age will be accepted for sale.
7. As from January 1st 2001 the Society will not accept progeny from mares unless the mare is at least 33 months old on the date of foaling.
8. A statement must be included in the entry form that if a mare is in foal, it is to a stallion registered with SPSBS, or if in foal to a stallion not registered with SPS-BS, the progeny will not be eligible for registration with the Society. The covering stallion's name and registration number and date(s) of covering must be clearly stated on the form.
9. In the interests of welfare, it is recommended that lactating mares are not accepted at Society Sales, nor should mares due to foal within eight weeks or less of the date of the Sale be accepted. Two year old fillies who have been running with a stallion will not be accepted for sale.
10. Full details of the following must be given on the entry form and printed in the catalogue:
    1. Sire's name and Stud-Book number
    2. Dam's name and Stud-Book number
    3. Exact date of birth of foal
    4. Name and registration number of covering stallion, if applicable. Dates of covering must be included.
    5. If mares have not been covered in the current season, this must be stated
    6. Entries for colts aged two years or over must indicate whether the colt has been presented for assessment and the result given.
11. There must be no reference to spotted ponies in the catalogue. Any vendor's comments referring to spotted ponies should be deleted.
12. In the interests of welfare, working ponies of 4 years or over only may be clipped.
13. Should a pony be thought to be over height, the Vet present will be called to take a measurement. If the animal is subsequently found to measure more than 42", 107cm (plus 0.5inch, 1.3cm if shod), the pony will be removed from the Sale and its registration withdrawn. The owner may take the pony to a Joint Measurement Board pad, at his/her expense, if they so wish.
14. A draft schedule must be lodged with the SPS-BS Secretary at least three weeks prior to printing. Printing must not commence until approval has been given by the Society. Entries for checking by the Office should be forwarded as soon as possible and preferably not retained until the closing date.
15. Members of the SPS-BS will be given preference over non-members. If no membership number is quoted on the entry form, the vendor should not be given preference.
16. If the Sale is preceded by a Show of registered Shetland ponies, the Judge/s must be members of the SPS-BS Senior Judges Panel. Copies are available on request.
17. The Auctioneers must deduct a 1% levy from all sales on behalf of the Society.
18. The Auctioneers must deduct £8 (incl. VAT) from the vendors' accounts for each male foal or yearling male sold and £10 (incl. VAT) for every other pony sold. If the vendor is a non-member, the transfer fee per male foal or yearling male pony is £16 (incl. VAT) or £20 (incl. VAT) per other pony. These fees should be sent to the SPSBS who will process the necessary transfers.
19. In the case of a pony being exported, the Auctioneer must deduct £35 per pony - £25 of this to be paid by the purchaser and £10 by the vendor. Double rates apply to non-Members. The International Pony Movement Certificate will be forwarded directly to the foreign Stud-Book Society concerned. The Society would like all vendors of ponies sold for export to be present whilst the Vet completes the IPMC. Should any pony sold for export not already have a passport, the purchaser must pay £15 for a passport to be produced. All ponies sold for export must be in possession of a passport.
20. A typed list of full purchasers names and addresses must be sent to the Society as soon as possible after the sale.
21. A pony which has a Passport (all those born on or after 1st January 1998) must not be permitted to be presented for sale unless the Passport has been received by the Auctioneer's office prior to the sale. The Passport must then be passed to the new owner for the onward journey.
22. The Society reserves the right to random DNA test ponies which would involve taking a hair sample.
